1/3 Slingababy reflection

I have been wanting to attend a consultant training for a year now!  Things have kept popping up so I wasn’t able to commit to trainings that presented themselves in New Zealand and Australia.
peninacorinneSomewhere along the way Corinne, The Sling Lady (Christchurch), told me about the possibility of Lorette coming to New Zealand to run a Slingababy consultant course.   I am a true baby-carrying-enthusiast, from postnatal exercise with baby, to sewing baby carriers, to helping share baby carrying knowledge with local antenatal groups and assisting the the local sling group.

Though enthusiastic about baby carrying, I still felt that I lacked knowledge to make me share my enthusiasm about carrying more confidently with others, so I decided to sign up for the consultant course!

The weekend before the course was to start I prepared my suitcase full of baby carriers, I also prepared myself for leaving my family of six for six days! The youngest two girls will be 3 in November and were the most concerned that I was leaving, but when the came no tears were shed as I left.

img_6830I arrived to the course to see Lorette and Corinne busy setting things up.  There was a circle of ladies standing chatting and I worried that the class had started without myself and Sandy, who I had met in the cafe earlier.

Sandy and I had arrived early to the location and decided to enjoy hot drinks before we realised it was 9am already! But we weren’t late, the ladies were just mingling in a perfect circle 🙂

Reflecting upon things now, I think I was expecting the course to be very ‘technical’ but I’m so thankful it was not! The focus was not based on how we technically carry, but more about why we carry, and what is important in the way we approach our work with people. I found this part the most fascinating thing about the course because many times we can get overwhelmed by the mechanics of a ‘carry’ rather than really embracing the beauty of carrying and what holistic benefits we receive from it.
